Melanie Kay - General Manager Corporate Services
Melanie Kay has lived in the oppressive heat of Dubai and Australia’s tropical Top End, but Victoria’s Alpine region is where her heart is.
The beautiful region has long been an attraction, so much so that she created a special picture window in her Mansfield home to capture a full-life size view of Mt Buller – all day, every day.
“I grew up in the Kiewa Valley, so I actually learnt to ski at Mt Hotham, spending a lot of time at a friend’s lodge in Dinner Plain,” Melanie says. “Since then, I’ve lived and worked in Melbourne, Dubai and Darwin.”
Ironically, it was at Dubai’s indoor slopes that two of Melanie’s three sons first discovered their love of snow Boarding.
“They started inside in Dubai and never lost the love of it, but these days they much prefer the runs at Mt Buller and are keen to tick off all of the Resorts,” she says.
“My boys catch the bus up to Buller on the weekend and snowboard and catch it home at night and do it all again the next day. They love it.”
“I don’t ski as often as I would like anymore but hope to change that now working for Alpine Resorts Victoria. I hope I get more of an opportunity to do so.
“I love it here even when it’s not snowing. I spend a lot of time camping, hiking and horse riding. I’ve walked all over the state, country and overseas and I think we truly underestimate how beautiful north-east Victoria is.”
With a diverse career history spanning large scale project management and organisational reform, Melanie has worked for the Department of Transport and Planning, State and Federal Government housing projects and overseas managing masterplanned communities.
As the General Manager Corporate Services at Alpine Resorts Victoria, Melanie has a range of responsibilities including finance, information and communication technology, people and culture, and safety and risk.
One of her priorities is to use the consolidation of the resorts to garner greater career opportunities for staff.
“At the moment, we have the different resorts, and we have a central team and they’re all very separate,” she said.
“The priority is to bring all of that together so it gives all staff the chance to look at opportunities at other resorts knowing that they’re within the one organisation. That’s going to be key to the long-term sustainability of our staffing.”
