Alpine Resorts Victoria (ARV) has released details of its newly formed Stakeholder Consultative Committees (SCCs), which will provide advice relating to strategic and operational matters affecting the alpine resorts of Falls Creek, Mt Buller, Mt Hotham, Mt Stirling, Lake Mountain and Mt Baw Baw.
Following the formation of Alpine Resorts Victoria on 1 October 2022, the ARV board sought nominations from resort-based organisations to participate in the SCCs, with the aim of ensuring broad representation of stakeholders and key user groups. Whilst ARV had been provided with a 12-month timeline to setup these SCCs, they have been formed within two months of ARV’s commencement, recognising the importance of stakeholder partnerships across the resorts.
Enacted in recent amendments to the Alpine Resorts (Management) Act 1997, the SCCs will provide a conduit for information and advice between ARV and key stakeholders about matters relating to the promotion, operation, management, development and use of the resort; strategic matters affecting alpine resorts and surrounding communities (including First Nations people); the development of the alpine resorts strategic plan; and matters relating to fees and contributions for the provision of services by ARV.
Chief Executive Officer of ARV, Amber Gardner, welcomed the appointment of the SCCs and is looking forward to a new approach to collaboration and communication with the resorts. “The creation of the Stakeholder Consultative Committees is an important step in the transition to Alpine Resorts Victoria. The shift in governance arrangements for the alpine resorts represents a new era for the sector and an opportunity to ensure that local matters are being raised, heard and considered by government.
“The alpine resorts are a huge contributor to the Victorian visitor economy, and it is important that there is an ongoing discussion of issues across the alpine sector to support strategic growth and resilience.”
